RECORD HIGH NEW YORK GRAPE PRODUCTION FORECASTED
The 2003 New York all grape crop is forecast at 210 thousand tons, up 2 percent from the August forecast and up 35 percent from last year's production of 156 thousand tons. This forecast sets a record high for New York grape production. New York growers reported large crops and large berry size. However, many growers delayed Concord harvesting because of low sugar content. U.S. grape production is forecast at 6.75 million tons, down 4 percent from the August 1 forecast and 8 percent below 2002.
