NOVEMBER PRICES DECREASED

Prices received by New York producers during November for selected commodities were decreased from a month earlier. The price of corn, wheat, soybeans, hay, apples and milk decreased.  The price of potatoes and eggs increased.   Many previous month prices were revised due to more complete sales information.

Grain corn, at $2.01 per bushel, decreased 10 cents from October and 43 cents from last year.  Wheat averaged $3.18 per bushel, 13 cents less than October but 81 cents more than November 2004.  Hay averaged $109.00 per ton, $8.00 less than October and  $7.00  less than November 2004.  Soybeans, at $5.25 per bushel, were 1 cent less than last month but 6 cents more than last year. Fresh market apple prices at the packinghouse door averaged 26.80 cents per pound this month, 1.60 cents less than October but 4.50 cents more than November 2004.   Potatoes averaged $12.90 per hundredweight, 40 cents more than October and $5.50 more than November a year ago.

Dairy farmers in the Empire State received an average of $15.80 per hundredweight of milk sold during November, down 10 cents from October and $1.00 from November a year ago.  Poultry producers received an average of 51 cents per dozen eggs sold, up 21 cents from October and 15 cents from November 2004.

The preliminary All Farm Products Index of Prices Received by Farmers in November, at 113, based on 1990-92=100, increased 2 points (1.8 percent) from October. The Crop Index is up 1 point (1.0 percent) while the Livestock Index decreased 1 point (0.8 percent). Producers received higher commodity prices for eggs, oranges, potatoes, cucumbers, and cattle. Lower prices were received for lettuce, dairy, hogs, broilers, and tomatoes. The overall index is also affected by the seasonal change based on a 3-year average mix of commodities producers sell. Increased average marketings of dairy, cattle, cotton, and oranges offset decreased marketings of soybeans, potatoes, peanuts, and sweet corn.
