nd-crop-weather STATE NORTH DAKOTA CROP, LIVESTOCK & WEATHER REPORT RELEASE DATE, WEEK ENDING DATE Released: October 31, 2005 For Week Ending: October 30, 2005 ISSUE ND-CW4405 AGRICULTURAL SUMMARY General: Above average temperatures and little to no rainfall during the week resulted in ideal harvest conditions, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, North Dakota Field Office. Corn for grain and sunflower harvest advanced rapidly, while soybean harvest was virtually complete. Good weather also allowed producers to complete some fall tillage and fertilizer applications. On average, there were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork statewide. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 1 percent very short, 18 short, 78 adequate and 3 surplus, compared with the 5-year (2000-2004) average of 13 percent very short, 27 short, 52 adequate and 8 surplus. FIELD CROPS REPORT Crops: Excellent progress was made on corn for grain and sunflower harvest during the week. Corn for grain harvest jumped 32 percentage points to 61 percent complete and nearly reached average. Sunflower harvest was 63 percent complete, almost two weeks ahead of last year and equal to the average pace. Soybeans were 99 percent harvested by week's end. LIVESTOCK, PASTURE AND RANGE REPORT Livestock: Livestock producers continued to wean and market spring calves and were moving livestock feed to winter feeding areas. Pasture condition ratings decreased to 41 percent good to excellent from 49 percent the previous week, but remained better than last year and average. Stockwater supplies were rated 86 percent adequate to surplus, the same as the previous week.
