nd-crop-weather STATE NORTH DAKOTA CROP, LIVESTOCK & WEATHER REPORT RELEASE DATE, WEEK ENDING DATE Released: November 19, 2007 For Week Ending: November 18, 2007 ISSUE ND-CW4707 AGRICULTURAL SUMMARY General: Row crop harvest was virtually complete by week’s end, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, North Dakota Field Office. Farmers were able to continue fall tillage and fertilization, but were wrapping up those activities at week’s end. The first snowfall of the year was received across the state this past weekend in the form of light snow showers. Although some precipitation was received last week, reporters noted that producers remained concerned about soil moisture supplies for next year’s crops. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 84 percent short to adequate, while subsoil moisture supplies were rated 83 percent short to adequate. Statewide, on average, there were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork. FIELD CROPS REPORT Crops: Mostly dry conditions allowed producers to make good harvest progress on corn and sunflower crops during this past week. Corn for grain and sunflower harvest progress both advanced to 97 percent complete by week’s end. Both crops were behind last year but slightly ahead of the five-year (2002-2006) average. LIVESTOCK, PASTURE AND RANGE REPORT Livestock: Producers main activities included moving cattle to graze on row crops, selling and weaning calves. Stockwater supplies were rated 7 percent very short, 23 short, 67 adequate and 3 surplus, similar to the previous week.
