NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS SERVICE USDA, NASS, Oregon Field Office 2005 Oregon Vineyard and Winery Report February 2006 Frequency: Annual 1220 SW 3rd Ave., Room 1735 Portland, Oregon 97204 (503) 326-2131 or 1-800-338-2157 Email: nass-or@nass.usda.gov Website: www.nass.usda.gov/or Oregon produced and crushed a record number of grapes in 2005. Increased production can be largely attributed to newly bearing vines planted three and four years ago. Oregon vineyards reported growing a total of 72 grape varieties in 2005 (including test plots). Wine case sales were up 24 percent from 2004 with a value of $184.7 million. Oregon's 303 wineries reported producing wines under 384 labels. Unfilled wine grape needs reported by wineries, from most to least needed, were: Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, White Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Tempranillo, Albarino, Malbec, Rousanne, Viognier, Grenache, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Meunier, Muscat, Zinfandel, and Syrah. Funding for this annual survey is provided by the Oregon Wine Board.
