Chardonnay prices by clone type
At the request of the Wine Advisory Board, vineyards reporting Chardonnay
prices were recontacted to identify their clone types and related prices.
Only 46 percent of the original Chardonnay tonnage was accounted for during
these recontacts. Of the recontacted tonnage, 15 percent was from Dijon
clones and 85 percent was from other clone types. The average price was
$1,200 per ton for Dijon clones and $1,000 per ton for other clones. Because
of the wide price range reported, these average prices do not reflect a
significant statistical difference from each other or from the overall
average price for Chardonnay of $1,030 per ton.
