NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS SERVICE 2010 Oregon Vineyard and Winery Report February 2011 Revised March 2011 Frequency: Annual 805 SW Broadway, Ste 910 Portland, Oregon 97205 (503) 326-2131 or 1-800-338-2157 Email: nass- or@nass.usda.gov Website: www.nass.usda.gov/or USDA, NASS, Oregon Field Office Oregon wine grape production was down 22 percent in 2010. Production of grapes from Oregon vineyards fell to 31,200 tons, the lowest level since 2005. Decreased wine grape production was attributed to a variety of reasons including poor fruit set for some growers, a very cool growing season, mold, birds, and deer. The average yield per harvested acre was down to 1.85 tons. Planted acreage in 2010 increased to over 20,000 acres for the first time. Oregon showed a net increase of 14 vineyards in 2010 to 849. The number of wineries crushing grapes in Oregon increased to 315, a net increase of 40. Case sales of Oregon wine increased a healthy 16 percent in 2010. Wine sales in dollars followed with an increase of 26 percent from 2009. Funding for this annual survey is provided by the Oregon Wine Board.
