SD-CROP-LIVESTOCK South Dakota PRICES RECEIVED News Release April 29, 2005 LIVESTOCK PRICES UP FROM LAST YEAR, CROP PRICES MIXED SIOUX FALLS, April 29, 2005 Preliminary April prices for cattle and hogs were up from last year, while corn, soybeans, and wheat were down, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Office. The preliminary all wheat price for April, at $3.17, was down 27 cents from last month and down 62 cents from last year. The winter wheat price, at $2.86, was down 38 cents from last month and down 79 cents from last April. The spring wheat price, at $3.41, was 18 cents lower than last month and 52 cents lower than last year. The April soybean price, at $5.85, was 3 cents higher than last month but $3.69 lower than last year. The corn price, at $1.75, was down 8 cents from last month and down $1.12 from last year. The preliminary all sunflower price, at $14.80, was up 30 cents from last month and up $1.80 from last year. The preliminary April all hog price, at $50.60, was down $1.40 from last month but $2.10 above from last year. Barrows and gilts were down $1.50 from last month but up $2.10 last year, while sows were down 80 cents from March but up $2.00 from April 2004. The preliminary April all beef cattle price, at $99.30, was up 80 cents from last month and up $13.20 from last year. Steers and heifers, at $105.00, were up $2.00 from March and up $13.80 from April of last year. Calves, at $138.00, were up $1.00 from last month and up $22.00 lower than April 2004. The all hay price for April, at $61.00 per ton, was unchanged from March but was down $1.00 from last year. The alfalfa price, at $62.00 per ton, was down $1.00 from last month and down $1.00 from last year. The other hay price, at $52.00, was up $3.00 from last month and up $7.00 from April 2004.
