sd-crop-livestock PRICES RECEIVED News Release August 31, 2005 LIVESTOCK PRICES UP FROM LAST MONTH, CROP PRICES MOSTLY DOWN SIOUX FALLS, August 31, 2005 -- Preliminary August prices were down from July for corn, soybeans, wheat, sunflower and oats, while other hay and barley were up, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. Preliminary prices for swine and cattle were up, while cows were down. The preliminary all wheat price for August, at $3.21, was down 4 cents from last month but up 7 cents from last year. The winter wheat price, at $2.99, was down 7 cents from last month and down 11 cents from last August. The spring wheat price, at $3.28, was 29 cents lower than last month but 11 cents higher than last year. The August soybean price, at $5.95, was 41 cents lower than last month and 40 cents lower than last year. The corn price, at $1.64, was down 27 cents from last month and down 56 cents from last year. The preliminary all sunflower price, at $13.40, was down $1.40 from last month but up $1.80 from last year. The preliminary August all hog price, at $50.30, was up 70 cents from last month but $5.60 below last year. Barrows and gilts were up 40 cents from last month but down $5.20 from last year, while sows were up $1.00 from July but down $8.20 from August 2004. The preliminary August all beef cattle price, at $88.30, was up $8.00 from last month but down $2.60 from last year. Steers and heifers, at $95.00, were up $6.50 from July but down $2.70 from August of last year. Calves, at $132.00, were up $3.00 from last month but down $11.00 from August 2004. The all hay price for August, at $59.00 per ton, was down $2.00 from July but unchanged from last year. The alfalfa price, at $62.00 per ton, was unchanged from last month and unchanged from last year. The other hay price, at $50.00, was up $5.00 from last month and up $3.00 from August 2004.
