SD-CROP-LIVESTOCK South Dakota PRICES RECEIVED News Release October 31, 2005 CATTLE PRICES UP SIOUX FALLS, October 31, 2005 -- Preliminary October prices were up from September for all wheat and all barley, according to the South Dakota Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Preliminary prices for all beef cattle and calves were up, while swine prices were down. The preliminary all wheat price for October, at $3.80, was up 22 cents from last month and up 35 cents from last year. The winter wheat price, at $3.49, was up 23 cents from last month and up 37 cents from last October. The spring wheat price, at $3.97, was 20 cents higher than last month and 37 cents higher than last year. The October soybean price, at $5.30, was 22 cents lower than last month and 2 cents lower than last year. The corn price, at $1.60, was down 11 cents from last month and down 37 cents from last year. The preliminary all sunflower price, at $11.00, was down $1.80 from last month and down 60 cents from last year. The preliminary October all hog price, at $49.80, was down 20 cents from last month and $2.80 below last year. Barrows and gilts were down 50 cents from last month and down $3.10 from last year, while sows were up $1.60 from September but down $1.00 from October 2004. The preliminary October all beef cattle price, at $108.00, was up $10.10 from last month and up $5.00 from last year. Steers and heifers, at $115.00, were up $11.00 from September and up $6.00 from October of last year. Calves, at $141.00, were up $2.00 from last month and up $11.00 from October 2004. The all hay price for October, at $59.00 per ton, was down $5.00 from September and down $4.00 from last year. The alfalfa price, at $63.00 per ton, was down $5.00 from last month and down $4.00 from last year. The other hay price, at $50.00, was down $2.00 from last month and down $1.00 from October 2004.
