SD-CROP-LIVESTOCK NEWS RELEASE United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service South Dakota Field Office - Sioux Falls, SD Media contact: South Dakota Office, 605/323-6500 Email: nass-sd@nass.usda.gov JANUARY PRICES RECEIVED MIXED SIOUX FALLS, February 1, 2006 -- Preliminary January prices were up from December for corn, all hay, alfalfa hay, all barley, and oats, according to the South Dakota Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Preliminary prices for swine were down, while all beef cattle and calves were up. The preliminary all wheat price for January, at $3.61, was down 11 cents from last month but up 19 cents from last year. The winter wheat price, at $3.53, was down 3 cents from last month but up 24 cents from last January. The spring wheat price, at $3.71, was 21 cents lower than last month but 17 cents higher than last year. The January soybean price, at $5.28, was 23 cents lower than last month and 6 cents lower than last year. The corn price, at $1.75, was up 2 cents from last month but down 1 cent from last year. The preliminary all sunflower price, at $11.40, was down $1.20 from last month and down $1.90 from last year. The preliminary January all hog price, at $41.60, was down $2.70 from last month and $12.50 below last year. Barrows and gilts, at $42.90, were down $2.50 from last month and down $12.80 from last year, while sows, at $33.20, were down $2.60 from December and down $10.50 from January 2005. The preliminary January all beef cattle price, at $102.00, was up $7.10 from last month and up $6.10 from last year. Steers and heifers, at $113.00, were up $2.00 from December and up $8.00 from January of last year. Calves, at $144.00, were up $1.00 from last month and up $13.00 from January 2005. The all hay price for January, at $63.00 per ton, was up $3.00 from December and up $1.00 from last year. The alfalfa price, at $65.00 per ton, was up $2.00 from last month but unchanged from last year. The other hay price, at $51.00, was up $1.00 from last month but unchanged from January 2005.
