SD-CROP-LIVESTOCK South Dakota JULY CROP REPORT News Release July 12, 2005 JULY 1 WINTER WHEAT YIELD UP FROM LAST YEAR SIOUX FALLS, July 12, 2005 The South Dakota July 1 winter wheat production is forecast at 68.60 million bushels, up 4 percent from the June 1 forecast. The yield, at 49.0 bushels, is up 2 bushels from the June 1 forecast and up 4 bushels from last year. Harvested area, at 1,400,000 acres, is up 150,000 acres from last year and remains unchanged from the June 1 forecast. The July 1 yield and production forecasts are both records for South Dakota. Other spring wheat production is forecast at 82.25 million bushels, up 14 percent from 2004. The yield, forecast at 47 bushels per acre, is unchanged from last year's record yield. Acres intended for harvest, at 1.75 million, are up 14 percent from last year. Oat production, at 14.94 million bushels, is up 7 percent from last year. The yield is forecast at 83 bushels, up 1 bushel from last year's record yield. Acres harvested for grain are forecast at 180,000, up 10,000 acres from 2004. Barley production is forecast at 3.0 million bushels, down 5 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at 60 bushels per acre, down 3 bushels from last year.
