SIOUX FALLS, March 31, 2005 _ March 1 corn, soybean, all wheat, barley, and grain sorghum stocks
are all up from last year, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Office. Oat stocks are
down from last year. Total stocks include grain on farms, grain in mills and elevators, grain in government
storage bins, and grain stored under the farmer-owned Grain Reserve Program.
Corn stocks on March 1 totaled 312.8 million bushels, up 44 percent from last year. On-farm grain stocks
accounted for 230.0 million bushels, up 48 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 82.8 million bushels,
were up 34 percent from last March.
Soybean stocks totaled 59.0 million bushels, up 76 percent from last year. On-farm stocks represented
42.0 million bushels, up 25.0 million bushels from last March, and off-farm stocks, at 17.0 million bushels,
were up 3 percent from a year ago.
All wheat stocks, at 58.4 million bushels, were up 14 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks totaled
35.0 million bushels, compared to 26.0 million bushels last year. Off-farm stocks, at 23.4 million bushels,
were down 6 percent from last March.
Oat stocks, at 8.5 million bushels, were down 2 percent from last year. On-farm stocks consisted of 6.9
million bushels, down 7 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks totaled 1.6 million bushels, up 28 percent
from March 2004.
Barley on-farm stocks totaled 930,000 bushels, up 33 percent from the previous year. No off-farm
estimates are published.
Sorghum off-farm stocks are at 1.3 million bushels. No on-farm estimate is published.
