sd-crop-livestock STOCKS OF GRAIN News Release June 30, 2005 GRAIN STOCKS SUPPLIES MIXED FROM A YEAR AGO SIOUX FALLS, June 30, 2005 June 1 corn, soybean, oat, grain sorghum, and barley stocks are up from last year, according to USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. All wheat stocks are down from last year. Total stocks include grain on farms, grain in mills and elevators, grain in government storage bins, and grain stored under the farmer-owned Grain Reserve Program. Corn stocks on June 1 totaled 193.6 million bushels, up 50 percent from last year. On-farm grain stocks accounted for 150.0 million bushels, up 53 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 43.6 million bushels, were up 42 percent from a year ago. Soybean stocks totaled 29.0 million bushels, up 56 percent from last year. On-farm stocks represented 20.5 million bushels, up 163 percent from last June, but off-farm stocks, at 8.5 million bushels, were down 22 percent from a year ago. All wheat stocks, at 22.6 million bushels, were down 25 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks totaled 15.0 million, compared to 14.5 million last year. Off-farm stocks, at 7.6 million bushels, were down 51 percent from last June. Oat stocks, at 4.8 million bushels, were up fractionally from last year. On-farm stocks consisted of 3.8 million bushels, up 3 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks totaled 1.0 million bushels, down 6 percent from June 2004. Barley on-farm stocks totaled 800,000 bushels, up 122 percent from the previous year. Off-farm stocks are not published. Sorghum off-farm stocks are at 1.0 million bushels.
