sd-crop-livestock STOCKS OF GRAIN News Release September 30, 2005 GRAIN STOCKS SUPPLY MIXED SIOUX FALLS, September 30, 2005 -- South Dakota stocks of corn, soybeans, and sorghum on September 1 were up from last year, but all wheat, barley, and oats were down from a year ago, according to the South Dakota Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Total stocks include grain on farms, grain in mills and elevators, grain in government storage bins, and grain stored under the farmer-owned Grain Reserve Program. All wheat stocks, at 112.8 million bushels, were down 3 percent from last year. On-farm stocks totaled 72.0 million bushels, down 4 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 40.8 million, were down 2 percent from a year ago. Corn stocks totaled 83.9 million bushels on September 1, up 106 percent from last year. On-farm stocks contributed 50.0 million bushels, up 79 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 33.9 million bushels, were up 165 percent from last year. Soybean stocks in South Dakota totaled 9.5 million bushels, up 133 percent from last year. On-farm stocks represented 5.8 million bushels, up 263 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 3.7 million, up 50 percent from last year. Oat stocks on September 1, at 14.3 million bushels, were down 1 percent from last year. On-farm stocks were 11.5 million bushels, down 4 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks totaled 2.8 million, up 14 percent from last year. Barley on-farm stocks totaled 1.8 million bushels, down 22 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks are not published. Sorghum off-farm stocks, at 722,000 bushels, were up 473 percent from last year.
