SIOUX FALLS, May 20, 2005 -- South Dakota's 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 200,000 cattle
on feed for the slaughter market on May 1, according to the USDA's South Dakota Ag Statistics
Service. The May 1 number is unchanged from a year ago but down 5,000 head from April 2004.
Placements during April totaled 27,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year but down 4,000 head
from March.
Marketings of fed cattle during April totaled 31,000 head, up 3,000 head from last year but down
3,000 head from March.
Other disappearance during April totaled 1,000 head, down 2,000 head from last year and down
1,000 from last month.
