sd-crop-livestock CATTLE ON FEED News Release June 17, 2005 CATTLE ON FEED INVENTORY DOWN FROM MAY SIOUX FALLS, June 17, 2005 -- South Dakota's 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 186,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on June 1, according to the USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. The June 1 number is down 2,000 head from a year ago and down 14,000 head from last month. Placements during May totaled 28,000 head, unchanged from last year but up 1,000 head from April 2005. Marketings of fed cattle during May totaled 38,000 head, up 1,000 head from a year earlier and up 7,000 head from April 2005. Other disappearance during May totaled 4,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year and up 3,000 from last month.
