sd-crop-livestock CATTLE ON FEED News Release July 22, 2005 CATTLE ON FEED DOWN FROM JUNE SIOUX FALLS, July 22, 2005 -- South Dakota's 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 161,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on July 1, according to the USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 12,000 head from a year earlier and down 25,000 head from last month. Placements during June totaled 26,000 head, up 6,000 head from last year but down 2,000 head from May. Marketings of fed cattle during June totaled 48,000 head, up 14,000 head from a year ago and up 10,000 head from May. Other disappearance during June totaled 3,000 head, up 2,000 head from last year but down 1,000 from May. Steers totaled 75,000 head, 47 percent of the total cattle on feed. Heifers totaled 69,000 head, 43 percent of the total cattle on feed. Bulls and cows totaled 17,000 head, 10 percent of the total cattle on feed.
