sd-crop-livestock CATTLE ON FEED News Release September 23, 2005 CATTLE ON FEED INVENTORY DOWN FROM AUGUST SIOUX FALLS, September 23, 2005 -- South Dakota's 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 132,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on September 1, according to the USDA's South Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. This is down 6,000 head from a year earlier and down 11,000 head from last month. Placements during August totaled 24,000 head, down 1,000 head from last year but up 9,000 head from July 2005. Marketings of fed cattle during August totaled 34,000 head, down 9,000 head from last year but up 4,000 head from last month. Other disappearance during August totaled 1,000 head, unchanged from a year earlier but down 2,000 head from July 2005.
