sd-crop-livestock NEWS RELEASE United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service South Dakota Field Office, Sioux Falls, SD Media contact: South Dakota Office, 605/323-6500 Email: nass-sd@nass.usda.gov CATTLE ON FEED INVENTORY UP FROM OCTOBER SIOUX FALLS, November 18, 2005 -- South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 161,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on November 1, according to the South Dakota Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. The November 1 number is down 8,000 head from one year ago but up 31,000 head from October. Placements during October totaled 68,000 head, up 3,000 head from last year and up 28,000 head from September. Marketings of fed cattle during October totaled 35,000 head, down 3,000 head from last year and down 5,000 head from September. Other disappearance during October totaled 2,000 head, up 1,000 head from one year ago but unchanged from September 2005.
