SOUTH DAKOTA POULTRY RECEIPTS MIXED
SIOUX FALLS, April 29, 2005 _ The value of egg production in South Dakota during 2004 was
$40.2 million, up 27 percent from the $31.7 million in 2003, according to USDA's South Dakota
Agricultural Statistics Office. Producers received an average 51.7 cents per dozen, up from the
previous year's 50.0 cents per dozen. Egg production in 2004 was estimated at 933 million, up
172 million, or 23 percent, from the previous year. Chicken deaths and other losses were up 53
percent from one year ago.
South Dakota producers raised 4.5 million turkeys in 2004, down 100,000 head from 2003, a
decrease of 2 percent. The value of this production was $57.3 million in 2004, up $5.4 million from
$51.9 million in 2003. Pounds produced in 2004 totaled 150.8 million, down 1 percent from the
152.7 million pounds produced in 2003.
