SD-CROP-LIVESTOCK NEWS RELEASE United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service South Dakota Field Office - Sioux Falls, SD Media contact: South Dakota Office, 605/323-6500 Email: nass-sd@nass.usda.gov CATTLE ON FEED INVENTORY UNCHANGED FROM LAST YEAR SIOUX FALLS, May 19, 2006 -- South Dakota’s 1,000+ capacity feedlots reported 200,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market on May 1, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The May 1 number is unchanged from one year ago but down 10,000 head from April 2006. Placements during April totaled 28,000 head, up 1,000 head from last year but down 8,000 head from March. Marketings of fed cattle during April totaled 35,000 head, up 4,000 head from last year but unchanged from March. Other disappearance during April totaled 3,000 head, up 2,000 head from last year and last month.
