SD-CROP-LIVESTOCK NEWS RELEASE United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service South Dakota Field Office - Sioux Falls, SD Media contact: South Dakota Office, 605/323-6500 Email: nass-sd@nass.usda.gov SOUTH DAKOTA POULTRY RECEIPTS MIXED SIOUX FALLS, April 27, 2006 -- The value of egg production in South Dakota during 2005 was $20.5 million, down 49 percent from the $40.2 million in 2004, according to the South Dakota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Producers received an average 30.1 cents per dozen, down from the previous year’s 51.7 cents per dozen. Egg production in 2005 was estimated at 816 million, down 117 million, or 13 percent, from the previous year. Chicken deaths and other losses were up 90 percent from one year ago. South Dakota producers raised 4.6 million turkeys in 2005, up 100,000 head from 2004, an increase of 2 percent. The value of this production was $52.1 million in 2005, down $5.2 million from $57.3 million in 2004. Pounds produced in 2005 totaled 140.8 million, down 7 percent from the 1 50.8 million pounds produced in 2004.
