REGIONAL: Nitrogen was applied to 98 percent of the
corn acreage in the 16 surveyed states. Growers
averaged 1.8 applications, applying 75 pounds per
treatment. Phosphate and potash were applied to 85
and 73 percent of the acreage respectively. Herbicides
were applied to 97 percent of the acreage. Atrazine
lead the way treating 71 percent of the acreage fol
lowed by Metolachlor (Dual) and Dicamba (Banvel),
treating 30 and 25 percent respectively. Thirty percent
of the acreage received insectide, Chlorpyrifos
(Lorsban, Dursban) being most popular.
