Agricultural Summary: The western and northern part of the state received up to 6 inches of rainfall while the rest of the state observed little to no moisture. Wheat harvest continued in the Northern High Plains. Irrigated cotton and grain sorghum progressed well in the Northern Low Plains. In South Texas, cotton began to set bolls, corn entered the mature stage and peanut planting was completed. In the Northern Low Plains, pecan nuts were developing well across the state. Supplemental feeding of livestock continued in localized parts of the state. Hay baling in most areas of the state progressed well due to warm, dry seasonal weather. Top soil moisture was mostly short to adequate across the state.

Field Crop Report

Small Grains: Wheat harvest continued in the Northern High Plains. In the Northern Plains, wheat suffered from the recent hail storm. Winter wheat in the Blacklands continued to be harvested for grain, plowed under or baled. Statewide, wheat condition was mostly very poor to fair and oat condition was mostly very poor to fair.

Cotton: In parts of the Plains, cotton suffered due to wind burn. Irrigated cotton progressed well in the Northern Low Plains. Dryland cotton planting continued in the Edwards Plateau. In South Texas, cotton began to set bolls. Cotton condition was mostly fair to good statewide.

Corn: Irrigated corn in the Northern High Plains progressed well, however, corn suffered minor leaf damage due to the recent hail storm. Corn in the Blacklands was in need of moisture. Dryland corn was being cut and rolled for hay in South Central Texas. Corn entered the mature stage in South Texas. Corn condition was mostly fair to good statewide.

Sorghum: In the Northern Low Plains, grain sorghum progressed well as producers sprayed for weeds. Sorghum hay suffered in the Blacklands due to lack of moisture. Irrigated sorghum at the seed development stage progressed well in South Texas. Sorghum condition was mostly fair to good statewide.

Peanuts: Peanut crop was being damaged by wild hogs in the Southern Low Plains. Planting was completed in South Texas. Peanut condition was mostly fair to good statewide

Rice: Rice condition was mostly fair to good statewide.

Soybeans: Soybean condition was mostly fair to good statewide.

Fruit, Vegetable and Specialty Crop Report

In North East Texas, tomatoes suffered due to blossom end rot while blueberry harvest continued. Potato and green bean harvest was completed in South Texas. Producers were preparing to harvest watermelons in South Texas.

Pecan: Pecan nuts are developing well across the state. Producers increased irrigation and spraying in the Edwards Plateau.

Livestock, Range and Pasture Report

Supplemental feeding of livestock continued in localized parts of the state. Hay baling in most areas of the state progressed well due to warm, dry seasonal weather. In parts of the plains, range and pasture conditions improved due to the recent rainfall. In South East and Central Texas, pastures and hay fields suffered from drought conditions and were in need of moisture. Wind and heat in South Texas stressed range and pasture conditions. Range and pasture condition was mostly fair to good statewide.
