Texas wheat producers have seeded 6.0 million acres for the 2008 winter wheat crop, down 3 percent from last year, and up 8 percent from 2006.

“A combination of good planting conditions and high wheat prices have encouraged many producers to sow wheat this year,” State Director David Abbe reported.

Nationally, U.S. seeding of winter wheat for 2008 totaled 46.6 million acres, up 4 percent from 2007.
