Texas Angora Goat Inventory Down 17 Percent

According to the annual report released by the Texas Field Office, meat and other goats, previously referred to as Spanish and other goats, totaled 1.09 million head, equal to the 2007 estimate.  Total inventory of Angora goats is 150,000 head, down 17 percent from the 2007 estimate.  The inventory of milk goats on January 1, 2008 totaled 25,000 head, down 17 percent from the 2007 estimate.

All goat inventory in the United States on January 1, 2008, totaled 3.02 million head.  Breeding goat inventory totaled 2.50 million head and market goats totaled 520,000 head.  On January 1, 2008, meat and all other goats totaled 2.50 million head, milk goats totaled 305,000 head and Angora goats totaled 210,000 head.  The 2007 kid crop was 1.94 million head for all goats.
