Texas Milk Production Up 10 Percent from Last Year Issue: PR-127-08
Texas milk production totaled 733 million pounds during March, up 10 percent from last year’s production of 666 million pounds. February 2008 production totaled 660 million pounds. The number of milk cows during March averaged 370,000 head, up 23,000 head from last year and unchanged from the February 2008 number. Production per cow averaged 1,980 pounds during March, 60 pounds more than last year. Milk production in the 23 states participating in the monthly survey totaled 15.1 billion pounds, up 2.4 percent from production in these same states in March 2007. February revised production, at 13.9 billion pounds, was up 6.2 percent from February 2007. Production per cow during March averaged 1,795 pounds, 12 pounds above a year ago. The average number of milk cows in the 23 states was 8.44 million head, 141,000 head more than last year and 9,000 head more than February 2008. |
