Final 2007 Upland Cotton Production

The 2007 Texas Upland cotton crop totaled 8.25 million bales, up 42 percent from 2006, according to the Texas Field Office. The production estimate was increased by 150,000 bales, or 2 percent, from the January forecast. Harvested acreage for the season totaled 4.7 million acres, up 15 percent from the previous season, and unchanged from the January estimate. The average yield per acre, at 843 pounds, was up 16 pounds per acre from January, and up 164 pounds from 2006. Upland cotton planted acres are unchanged from the January estimate of 4.9 million acres, down 23 percent from the acreage planted in 2006. The U.S. Upland cotton crop totaled 18.4 million bales, down 12 percent from 2006. The U.S. yield for Upland cotton was 864 pounds per acre, 58 pounds more than 2006. Harvested acres, at 10.2 million acres, were down 18 percent from 2006. Upland planted area totaled 10.5 million acres, down 30 percent from 2006.
