Each of the six half-day sessions will be about 3½ hours in duration. The basic format will be:

Due to time constraints, there will be no oral presentation of contributed papers.

Each session discussant is asked to comment, both orally and in writing, on the five invited papers that will be presented during the assigned half-day session. In addition, the discussant may choose to comment on any contributed paper that is applicable to the session topic.

Invited papers (10 pages maximum suggested) will be forwarded to invited discussants as soon as possible after they are received by the Organizing Committee. Authors of invited papers have been given a due date of January 1, 1998.

Contributed papers (2 pages maximum requested) will also be forwarded to appropriate session discussants. Authors of contributed papers have been given a due date of February 1, 1998.


Oral Presentation of Comments

The oral presentation should be a discussion of the salient points addressed in the invited papers and should raise issues for open discussion. It is not intended that comments be presented in the form of another paper.

Length: Approximately 15-20 minutes will be available for comments from invited discussants.

Language: Presentations must be given in English. Translation services will not be available.

Special Presentation Requirements: An overhead projector and computer projection system (Proxima, PowerPoint, or other) will be available for use during all presentations. Please notify the Organizing Committee of any special software or other presentation equipment you will need.

Meeting with Session Chair: Session chairpersons may contact invited authors and discussants before the conference in order to discuss the time schedule, rules of procedure and other technical matters. If this is not done, invited authors and discussants will meet with the chairperson in the meeting room 15 minutes before the session begins.


Preparation of Written Comments

In order to minimize the editing needed to prepare conference materials and publications, please use the following specifications when preparing manuscripts.

Language: The written summary of comments must be in English.

Length: A maximum length of 5 pages is suggested.

Typographic Requirements:

Layout:

Sections: Number titles of main sections (headings) using arabic numerals. Number titles of subsections (sub-headings) using a decimal system (1.1, 1.2, etc.)


Submission of Written Comments

Please submit an electronic file and hard copy of your written comments as early as possible.

Due Date: Written comments should reach the Organizing Committee by March 18, 1998.

Electronic file format: Manuscripts should be submitted in WordPerfect 6.1 (preferred) or earlier versions, or Microsoft Word for Windows 6.0 or earlier versions.

Method of Submission:

Publication and Distribution of Written Comments

The Organizing Committee will print copies of invited discussants' written comments to distribute to participants at the conference. Written comments from invited discussants will also be published in the Agricultural Statistics 2000 conference proceedings.
