| Improvements in Conducting the
Census of Agriculture
The authority for defining a farm will be with the Secretary of Agriculture instead of the
Secretary of Commerce.
NASS's 45 field offices serving the 50 states will provide strong support for the census for
conducting and editing the census at the local level.
Integrating the expertise and resources:
takes advantage of NASS's recognized expertise in providing agricultural statistics
and the large scale processing capabilities of the Census Bureau.
will result in earlier release of data.
ensures that the outlying area censuses of agriculture (Guam, Puerto Rico, and the
Virgin Islands), and the follow-up programs such as the farm and ranch irrigation survey
and the horticultural specialties census will continue to receive support.
will enhance the availability of electronic data (CD-ROM and Internet).
