In 1996, Hamilton County led all counties in Illinois in total production of grain sorghum. Growers in Hamilton County produced 1,666,000 bushels of grain sorghum with an average yield of 98 bushels per acre. Wayne County ranked second with total production of 1,557,000 bushels. St. Clair County ranked third producing 1,313,600 bushels.

Illinois ranked sixth among all states in total grain sorghum production producing 18,480,000 bushels on 220,000 harvested acres.
