Illinois commercial vegetable growers harvested 22,200 acres of sweet corn for processing in 1996. Production was 137,600 tons with a value of $14,315,000. Illinois ranks seventh in the nation for production of sweet corn for processing. Growers also harvested 18,900 acres of snap beans for processing in 1996. Production was 73,700 tons with a value of $14,963,000. Lima beans, cucumbers, green peas, and tomatoes are other crops grown for processing in Illinois but not published to avoid disclosing individual operations.
