Apples grown commercially in Illinois during 1996 totaled 53 million pounds, 34 percent below the 1995 production. The 1996 production utilized was 20 million pounds below 1995 utilization. The average price for apples was up 11.4 cents per pound compared to 1995. The increase in the price per pound pushed the value of the crop up to 16.5 million dollars, 11 percent more than 1995.

Peach production in Illinois for 1996 totaled 2.0 million pounds, down 11 million pounds from 1995. The 1996 production utilized was also 11 million pounds below 1995 utilization. The average price was 64.0 cents per pound, up 89 percent from the 1995 price. Even with the higer prices the value of production was down 3.4 million dollars from 1995.
