Illinois commercial vegetable growers harvested 15,000 acres of sweet corn for processing in 1997. Production was 88,500 tons with a value of $8,664,000. Illinois ranks seventh in the nation for production of sweet corn for processing. Growers also harvested 11,500 acres of snap beans for processing in 1997. Production was 42,600 tons with a value of $8,936,000 Lima beans, cucumbers and green peas are other crops grown for processing in Illinois but not published to avoid disclosing individual operations.
