in-crop-weather State Indiana Crop Weather Week Ending Date November 14, 2004 Issue IN-CW4604 FINAL 2004 REPORT Agricultural Summary Favorable weather and drier field conditions allowed farmers to harvest corn and soybeans during most of the week, according to Indiana Agricultural Statistics. Rain halted field activities in some areas of the state, especially during Thursday. Farmers took the opportunity to spread fertilizer, apply NH3, chisel plow and move grain to market. Reporters indicate more tillage has been accomplished this fall than in recent years. Both corn and soybean harvest are now slightly behind the average pace. Farmers continued to visit their local FSA offices for LDP sign up. Field Crops Report There were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Ninety-three percent of the corn acreage is harvested compared with 88 percent last year and 94 percent for the average. By area, 91 percent of the corn acreage is harvested in the north, 96 percent in the central region and 92 percent in the south. Moisture content of harvested corn is averaging about 17 percent. Ninety-seven percent of the soybean acreage is harvested compared with 98 percent last year and 98 percent for the average. By area, 98 percent of the soybean acreage is harvested in the north, 98 percent in the central region and 91 percent in the south. Moisture content of harvested soybeans is averaging about 12.5 percent. Ninety-four percent of the winter wheat acreage is planted compared with 100 percent last year and 99 percent for the average pace. By area, 100 percent of the winter wheat acreage is planted in the north, 99 percent in the central region and 87 percent in the south. Eighty-four percent of the winter wheat acreage is emerged compared with 95 percent last year and 93 percent for the average pace. Other activities during the week were spreading lime, chopping corn stalks, cleaning fence rows, tiling fields, cleaning up, storing and repairing equipment, stripping tobacco, hauling manure and taking care of livestock. Livestock, Pasture and Range Report Pastures continue to improve in most areas of the state, helped by the recent rain. Livestock are in mostly good condition.
