in-crop-weather State Indiana Crop Weather Week Ending Date October 16, 2005 Issue IN-CW4205 Agricultural Summary Farmers had another outstanding week for harvesting corn and soybeans, according to the Indiana Field Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Corn harvest is about 1 day ahead of the 5 year average, but is about 6 days behind last year's pace. Soybean harvest is about 2 days ahead of the average, but is 7 days behind last year. Other activities during the week included fall tillage, spreading of fertilizer and lime, planting wheat and taking care of livestock. Field Crops Report There were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork. Corn condition is rated 54 percent good to excellent compared with 84 percent last year at this time. Ninety-eight percent of the corn is mature compared with 99 percent last year and 97 percent for the average. Forty-six percent of the corn has been harvested compared with 58 percent for last year and 43 percent for the average. Moisture content of harvested corn is averaging about 18 percent. Seventy-one percent of the soybean acreage has been harvested compared with 81 percent last year and 65 percent for the average. Moisture content of harvested soybeans is averaging about 12 percent. Sixty-eight percent of the winter wheat acreage has been planted compared with 63 percent last year and 54 percent for the average. Twenty-one percent of the winter wheat acreage has emerged compared with 19 percent last year and 20 percent for the average. Livestock, Pasture and Range Report Pasture condition is rated 3 percent excellent, 29 percent good, 44 percent fair, 19 percent poor and 5 percent very poor. Livestock are in mostly good condition.
