KANSAS DRY BEAN PRODUCTION UP



Kansas dry bean production is estimated at 289,000 hundredweight (cwt.), down 25 percent from the 1999 crop. Yield is estimated at 1,810 pounds per acre, 40 pounds below the 1,850 pounds per acre last year. Harvested acres, at 16,000, are down from 20,900 acres harvested in 1999 and 19,000 acres harvested in 1998.



United States production of dry beans is estimated at 26.4 million cwt. for 2000, down 21 percent from 1999 and 13 percent below two years ago. Area for harvest is estimated at 1.61 million acres, 15 percent below 1999 and down 16 percent from 1998. The average yield, at 1,641 pounds per acre, dropped 122 pounds from 1999.
