PRODUCTION
Kansas corn production is forecast at 326.0 million bushels, unchanged from the previous
forecast but 12 percent above last year's crop. Yields are expected to average 123
bushels per acre, unchanged from the previous forecast but 7 bushels above last year's
yield. Acreage harvested for grain, at 2.65 million, is unchanged from the previous
forecast but up 150,000 acres from 2002.
Sorghum grain production is expected to total 133.3 million bushels, unchanged from the
October forecast but down 1 percent from last year. Yields are forecast to average 43 bushels per acre,
unchanged from October 1 but 2 bushels below last year. Acreage for harvest is expected to total 3.10 million,
unchanged from the previous forecast but down 100,000 acres from 2002.
The soybean crop is expected to total 57.5 million bushels, up 5 percent from October 1 but 2 percent below
last year's crop. Yields are expected to average 23 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from last month but
unchanged from last year's yield. Acreage for harvest is expected to total 2.50 million, unchanged from the
previous month but 40,000 acres fewer than 2002.

last year. Indicated ear counts are the highest on record in six of the seven objective yield states. Nebraska's
ear count is the third highest on record, below 1999 and 2000.
Sorghum grain production is forecast at 400 million bushels, virtually unchanged from the October forecast but
up 8 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, the sorghum yield forecast, at 51.0 bushels per
acre, is unchanged from last month but up 0.3 bushel from last year. The forecast area to be harvested for
grain is 7.85 million acres, unchanged from last month but 8 percent above last year.
Soybean production is forecast at 2.45 billion bushels, down 1 percent from October and 11 percent below
2002. If realized, this would be the lowest production since 1996. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are
expected to average 33.8 bushels per acre, down 0.2 bushel from last month and down 4.2 bushels from
2002. Growers expect to harvest 72.5 million acres of soybeans, unchanged from the October forecast but up
fractionally from 2002.
