Lincoln County is nestled among the mountains in the extreme northwestern corner of the state. It was created in July 1909. The timber industry is the chief industry in the county. The agricultural areas are limited, the only considerable body of open land is located in the Tobacco Plains valley near Eureka. The Kootenai River traverses the county from west to east. The Libby Dam on the Kootenai River near the center of the county, forms Lake Koocanusa which extends up into Canada. The Yaak River runs through the northwestern corner of the county and joins the Kootenai River near the Montana/Idaho border. |
