nd-crops NEWS RELEASE Dry Edible Peas & Lentils July 12, 2005 Dry Edible Pea & Lentil Acreage North Dakota Dry Edible Peas: Planted acreage in North Dakota is estimated at 530,000 acres, up from 310,000 acres last year and 160,000 acres in 2003, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, North Dakota Field Office. This is the highest dry edible pea acreage estimate for North Dakota on record. Dry edible pea acreage estimates were added to the program in 1998 when 100,000 acres were planted. Lentils: Planted acreage is estimated at 130,000 acres, up from 100,000 acres last year and 55,000 acres in 2003. This is also the highest acreage on record since 1998 when lentil acreage was first estimated at 22,000 acres. United States Dry Edible Peas: Planted acreage of dry edible peas in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon and Washington is estimated at 804,000 acres, up 52 percent from last year. Harvested area is forecast at 772,000 acres, also up 52 percent from 2004. Lentils: Planted acreage of lentils in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Washington is estimated at 450,000 acres, up 30 percent from 2004. Harvested acreage is estimated at 430,000, up 31 percent from last year.
