nd-crops NEWS RELEASE Grain Stocks June 30, 2005 JUNE 1, 2005 GRAIN STOCKS REPORT North Dakota All wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2005, totaled 92.5 million bushels, according to the North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service. This is a 10 percent increase from a year ago. All wheat stocks include durum, other spring and winter wheat. On-farm stocks are estimated at 67.0 million bushels, up 40 percent from last year and the highest since 2002 when stocks were at 90.0 million bushels. Off-farm stocks, at 25.5 million bushels, were down 29 percent from a year ago. The March-May disappearance was 71.0 million bushels, up 5 percent from a year ago. Durum wheat stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 21.0 million bushels, up 40 percent from a year ago and the highest since 2002 when stocks were at 23.2 million bushels. On-farm stocks, at 17.0 million bushels, were up 70 percent, while off-farm stocks totaled 4.00 million bushels, down 20 percent from a year ago. The March-May disappearance was 13.9 million bushels, up 31 percent from the same period a year earlier. Barley stored in all positions on June 1 totaled 39.1 million bushels, up 29 percent from a year ago and the highest since 1999 when stocks were at 39.4 million bushels. On-farm stocks were at 20.0 million bushels, which was 6.50 million bushels more than last year. Off-farm stocks were up 14 percent from a year ago to 19.1 million bushels. Total disappearance was 20.9 million bushels, a 19 percent increase from the same period a year earlier. Oats stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 6.02 million bushels, up 9 percent from a year ago and the highest since 2001 when stocks were at 6.16 million bushels. On-farm stocks were 5.60 million bushels, up 19 percent, while off-farm stocks decreased 49 percent to 420,000 bushels. Disappearance was 2.00 million bushels, a 39 percent decrease from the same period a year earlier. Corn stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 39.6 million bushels, up 60 percent from a year ago and the highest since 1983 when stocks were at 39.9 million bushels. On-farm stocks were 29.0 million bushels, up 81 percent. Off-farm stocks increased 20 percent to 10.6 million bushels. Total disappearance was 31.4 million bushels, a 1 percent decrease from the same period a year earlier. Soybean stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 9.00 million bushels, up 8 percent from a year ago and the highest since 2003 when stocks were at 10.0 million bushels. On-farm stocks were 4.70 million bushels, up 81 percent, while off-farm stocks decreased 25 percent to 4.30 million bushels. Disappearance was 21.0 million bushels, a 218 percent increase from the same period a year earlier. United States All wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2005, totaled 540 million bushels, down 1 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 161 million bushels, up 22 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 379 million bushels, are down 9 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2005 disappearance is 445 million bushels, down 6 percent from the same period a year earlier. Durum wheat stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 37.2 million bushels, up 41 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 24.1 million bushels, are up 77 percent from June 1, 2004. Off-farm stocks totaled 13.1 million bushels, up 3 percent from a year ago. The March - May disappearance of 18.5 million bushels is up 3 percent from the same period a year earlier. Barley stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 129 million bushels, up 7 percent from June 1, 2004. On-farm stocks are estimated at 41.1 million bushels, 45 percent above a year ago. The March - May disappearance is 62.0 million bushels, 90 percent above the same period a year earlier. Oats stored in all positions on June 1 totaled 58.0 million bushels, 11 percent below the stocks on June 1, 2004. Of the total stocks on hand, 25.4 million bushels are stored on farms, 8 percent lower than a year ago. Disappearance during March - May 2005 totaled 24.5 million bushels, compared with 30.2 million bushels from the same period a year ago. Corn stocks in all positions on June 1 totaled 4.32 billion bushels, up 45 percent from June 1, 2004. Of the total stocks, 2.46 billion bushels are stored on farms, up 60 percent from a year earlier. The March - May disappearance is 2.44 billion bushels, compared with 2.30 billion bushels during the same period last year. Soybeans stored in all positions on June 1 totaled 700 million bushels, up 70 percent from June 1, 2004. On-farm stocks totaled 356 million bushels, up 224 percent from a year ago. The March - May disappearance is 682 million bushels, up 38 percent from the same period a year earlier.
