nd-prices-economic NEWS RELEASE Agricultural Prices October 31, 2005 North Dakota Agricultural Prices The Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products in October is 116 percent of the 1990-1992 base, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistical Service, North Dakota Field Office. This is down 8 percent from last year and unchanged from two years ago. The All Crops Index, at 112 percent of the base, is down 10 percent from October 2004 and the All Livestock Index, at 129 percent, is down 2 percent from last year. October indexes are calculated using preliminary mid-month prices. The September Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products, recalculated with full month prices, was 117 percent of the base, down 7 percent from September 2004. The All Crops Index, at 115 percent, was down 9 percent from the previous year and the All Livestock Index, at 125 percent, was down 4 percent. Preliminary October prices, followed by the change from September: Spring Wheat, $3.65 per bushel, up 31 cents; Durum Wheat, $3.20 per bushel, down 10 cents; Winter Wheat, $2.75 per bushel, up 14 cents; Feed Barley, $1.35 per bushel, down 3 cents; Malting Barley, $2.20 per bushel, up 16 cents; Oats, $1.15 per bushel, down 16 cents; Corn, $1.70 per bushel, down 7 cents; Soybeans, $5.35 per bushel, down 14 cents; Flaxseed, $6.05 per bushel, down 5 cents; Oil Sunflower, $11.00 per hundredweight (cwt.), up $1.30; All Dry Edible Beans, $14.50 per cwt., down $1.30; All Potatoes, $5.85 per cwt., up 5 cents; Alfalfa Hay, $57.00 per ton, unchanged; Other Hay, $39.00 per ton, up $1.00; Steers and Heifers, $107.00 per cwt., up $1.00; Cows, $49.00 per cwt., down $1.50; Calves, $135.00 per cwt., up $1.00. September whole month prices, with no preliminary October, followed by the change from August: Canola, $9.08 per cwt., down 48 cents; Pinto Beans, $15.40 per cwt., down $6.20; Hogs, $48.80 per cwt., down $2.30; Lambs, $117.00 per cwt., up $2.00; Sheep, $43.00 per cwt., up $5.00. October prices are preliminary and based on sales data for only part of the month. They will be replaced with whole month prices in next month's report. September prices are based on sales data for the entire month.
