nd-prices-economic NEWS RELEASE Agricultural Prices September 29, 2005 North Dakota Agricultural Prices The Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products in September is 117 percent of the 1990-1992 base, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistical Service, North Dakota Field Office. This is down 8 percent from last year and 1 percent below two years ago. The All Crops Index, at 116 percent of the base, is down 8 percent from September 2004 and the All Livestock Index, at 125 percent, is down 4 percent from last year. September indexes are calculated using preliminary mid-month prices. The August Index of Prices Received for All Farm Products, recalculated with full month prices, was 112 percent of the base, down 8 percent from August 2004. The All Crops Index, at 113 percent, was down 8 percent from the previous year and the All Livestock Index, at 111 percent, was down 6 percent. Preliminary September prices, followed by the change from August: Spring Wheat, $3.40 per bushel, up 9 cents; Durum Wheat, $3.35 per bushel, down 2 cents; Winter Wheat, $2.60 per bushel, up 2 cents; Feed Barley, $1.30 per bushel, down 5 cents; Malting Barley, $1.90 per bushel, up 6 cents; Oats, $1.40 per bushel, up 18 cents; Corn, $1.70 per bushel, down 12 cents; Soybeans, $5.30 per bushel, down 52 cents; Flaxseed, $6.10 per bushel, down 19 cents; Oil Sunflower, $12.50 per hundredweight (cwt.), down $1.50; All Dry Edible Beans, $16.00 per cwt., down $4.80; Alfalfa Hay, $57.00 per ton, down $2.00; Other Hay, $38.00 per ton, up $1.00; Steers and Heifers, $104.00 per cwt., up $5.00; Cows, $50.00 per cwt., up 50 cents; Calves, $141.00 per cwt., down $1.00. August whole month prices, with no preliminary September, followed by the change from July: Canola, $9.56 per cwt., down 94 cents; Pinto Beans, $21.60 per cwt., up 70 cents; Hogs, $51.10 per cwt., up 20 cents; Lambs, $115.00 per cwt., down $2.00; Sheep, $38.00 per cwt., down $3.00. September prices are preliminary and based on sales data for only part of the month. They will be replaced with whole month prices in next month's report. August prices are based on sales data for the entire month.
