ANTELOPE
Rain & snow stopped harvest for the first part of the week. The majority of producers have completed harvest. Producers were doing some field work such as discing, cutting stalks, fixing fence. Cattle are on stalks. Most calves have been weaned. Some death loss was noted due to the extreme changes in weather conditions and dry dusty conditions. Death loss would be about normal or below for this time of year for calves.
BOONE
Some fall tillage and fertilizer application this past week. Producers continue to graze corn stalks. They are also moving hay and selling calves at auction barns.
BOX BUTTE
Cooler but still dry on top.
BOYD
Dry conditions continue. Wheat condition will drop if we don't receive some moisture before freeze up.
CEDAR
Snow on Tuesday has prevented any harvest of corn still in the field. Warmer temperatures this weekend should permit harvest by the first part of the week.
CHASE
It has been warm and dry.
DAKOTA
Small patches of corn left to harvest, producers are waiting for storage or elevator space before they finish. The change from mild to severe cold has been a shock for livestock, but most are in good shape with plenty of feed available.
DAWSON
Harvest is complete with above average yields but not quite a record yield. Producers are concerned about high input costs for next year and low commodity prices. Feedlots are full and stalk fields are being grazed by cows and feeder cattle. From a yield basis the year has been successful. From a net income basis the year has been difficult.
DIXON
With open weather, the last of the corn to be harvested could be out of the field this week. Producers continue to direct there attention to winter preparations and projects, as well as working on financial matters in closing out the year. Conditions for livestock continue to be excellent.
DODGE
A light snow and cold conditions early in the week put a halt to any field work. No livestock losses to report. Cattle continue to graze fields.
FRONTIER
Fall harvest has wrapped up in the county with impressive yields and test weights reported. Fall calving is going well and the weather remains good.
HARLAN
Livestock care is the only game in town now since harvest is complete. Digging post holes has let me know how dry it really is. The dirt has the moisture and consistency of flour. There is no moisture what so ever in the top 18 inches of soil. The wheat has almost disappeared since the very cold weather hit this week.
HOLT
Dry conditions continue. Wheat condition will drop if we don't receive some moisture before freeze up.
JOHNSON
In this last week we've seen our first snow of the season and moisture in a while, .60 to .70in. For the most part it has stopped all field work but only because it's a little slimy on top. A few scattered unharvested corn fields do exist but nothing that farmers seem to be concerned with. Conditions are still extremely dry, ponds are low or dry. Farmers that are having conservation work done are commenting about how the ground is nothing but powder.
KNOX
Cattle are being moved to stalks. Recent snow and rain has pretty much stopped any field work. We'll see what this week brings for drying conditions.
MERRICK
Very dry soil conditions caused a problem with wheat emerging, some very thin stands. Still have a few fields of corn left to harvest. Farmers used the warm fall days after harvest to fence, move cattle, and shred stalks.
NANCE
Some fall tillage and fertilizer application this past week. Producers continue to graze corn stalks. They are also moving hay and selling calves at auction barns.
RICHARDSON
Farmers continue to apply fall fertilizer and other pre winter activities.
THURSTON
Three to four inches of snow fell last week but melted rapidly. Most are finished with harvest. Still some fall work progressing as the ground is still not frozen.
YORK
Rain and snow Tuesday stopped all field work. Most of snow melted in two days. Cattle are grazing stock fields again after the snow melted.
