ANTELOPE
Corn harvest is almost complete with just a few producers still harvesting. Cattle have been moved to stalks. Some problems have been noted due to dusty conditions with weaning.
BOONE
A few producers are struggling to complete corn harvest. The weather has been dry all fall and now moisture is starting to become very short. Since the temperatures have been very warm the wheat crop is needing moisture.
BOX BUTTE
No rain for a month with warm windy weather. Good for harvest and plant water use.
BOYD
Warm dry weather is still the big news. Moisture is needed before freeze up to ensure that winter wheat, alfalfa and pastures are OK next spring.
DAWSON
Harvest is about complete with 85% of the farmers finished and the rest close to complete. Some corn on the edge of the hills remains because the frosts did not reach those areas as early.
DIXON
Conditions for harvest remained excellent through the week with very few fields of corn left to harvest in the county. Producers continue to make preparations for winter. Some fall tillage and chemical application taking place. Conditions for livestock remain excellent.
DODGE
Cattle are being turned out to graze corn stalks. A lot of tillage and fertilizer is being applied this fall.
DOUGLAS
Dry winds during weekend reduced soil moisture.
FRONTIER
Unseasonably warm weather continued throughout the weekend, but forecasts show that may soon change. The weather has been great so far for fall calving and ranchers seem to be satisfied with their calf crops so far. Harvest is winding down with just a few fields remaining.
FURNAS
The wheat in Furnas County is needing moisture.
HARLAN
Cattle sales are very good with calves selling at a very good price. Crop prices are at historic lows, and even the LDP Payments only bring the prices up to the loan rates. The weather has been excellent for grazing of crop residue fields. Hay feeding is limited at this time.
HAYES
Corn harvest continues as well as moving livestock to corn stalks.
HITCHCOCK
Corn harvest continues as well as moving livestock to corn stalks.
HOLT
Warm dry weather is still the big news. Moisture is needed before freeze up to ensure that winter wheat, alfalfa and pastures are OK next spring.
JOHNSON
Warm and dry, most combining is done and a good percentage of the fall work is getting done with this mild weather.
KNOX
Harvest will be all but wrapped up in the next couple of days. Cattle are being moved to stalks. Some fall tillage is being completed.
MORRILL
Corn harvest continues, growers with smaller farms are for the most part done for the season.
NEMAHA
Harvest is winding down in the area. In general, crop yields were very good especially considering the marginal rainfall in some areas. Seems to be more wheat planted this fall, somewhat due to the high nitrogen fertilizer prices. Wheat looks pretty good over all. A lot of cows on corn stalks.
RICHARDSON
Richardson County is in need of precipitation. Both topsoil and subsoil conditions are below normal. Farmers are applying fall fertilizer.
SARPY
Dry winds during weekend reduced soil moisture.
SAUNDERS
Fall nitrogen application is in full swing
SCOTTSBLUFF
Corn harvest continues, growers with smaller farms are for the most part done for the season.
THURSTON
Another great week for harvest. Storage complications seem to be getting solved. Quite a bit of fall work being accomplished. Some tillage, fertilizing and dirt work projects being completed. Cattle are utilizing stocks where possible.
WASHINGTON
I am hearing about extremely dry conditions around the county. The corn harvest very close to being completed with yields being only modest.
YORK
Farmers are shredding stalks or discing. They are deep chiseling or applying anhydrous ammonia fertilizer after those operations. Cattle are getting good use of the harvested stalks. Water has to be hauled to the cattle as almost all of the small farm ponds are dry. Rain is needed before winter.
