We are pleased to present the results of the 1996 Equine Survey. This is the first detailed economic study of its kind undertaken of New Jersey's equine industry. This publication is designed to provide information to individuals and groups associated with the equine industry which will help keep the industry strong in the coming years. Decision makers at all levels are encouraged to use this publication because it clearly illustrates how large and widespread this industry is in our state.
New Jersey's equine industry supports thousands of jobs and is a major source of tourism, generating substantial revenue for the Garden State. The industry provides a variety of recreational opportunities for both horse hobbyists and the general public, and our many horse farms account for thousands of acres of agricultural open space.
Published by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, under a cooperative agreement with the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, this publication is dedicated to the continued success of the state's equine industry. We appreciate the help and participation of the many individuals and organizations who contribute to this publication, in particular those who voluntarily provided information on their operations and activities. Without their cooperation, this publication would not have been possible.
