November Crop Production


NEW MEXICO:
Corn for grain production forecast remains at 8.8 million bushels compared to 8.6 million bushels one year ago. Harvested acreage for 2004 is at 49,000 acres with yields expected to average 180.0 bushels per acre. Upland cotton production forecast is estimated at 125,000 bales, up 79 percent from the previous years' production of 70,000 bales. Harvested acreage is up 68 percent at 64,000 acres, with yields anticipated at 938 pounds per acre. American-Pima production is forecast at 21,000 bales, a 59 percent increase from the previous year's production of 13,200 bales. Harvested acreage totals 11,000 acres with yields anticipated to average 916 pounds per acre. Sorghum for Grain production is forecast at 4.5 million bushels, compared to 1.7 million bushels one year ago. Peanut harvested acreage is 16,000 acres with yields expected at 3,000 pounds per acre. Fall Potatoes remain steady with previous year's acreage of 4,000 and expected yield at 400 hundredweight per acre.

UNITED STATES: Corn for grain area harvested and to be harvested for grain is forecast at 73.3 million acres, unchanged from October but up 3 percent from 2003. Sorghum production is forecast at 472 million bushels, up 2 percent from last month and up 15 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, the sorghum yield forecast is 71.9 bushels per acre, up 1.5 bushels from October and up 19.2 bushels from last year. Peanuts production is forecast at 4.20 billion pounds, up 2 percent from last month and up 1 percent from 2003. Area for harvest is expected to total 1.39 million acres, unchanged from October but up 6 percent from last year. All cotton production is forecast at 22.5 million 480-pound bales, up 5 percent from October and up 23 percent from last year's production. Yield is expected to average a record high 818 pounds per harvested acre, up 36 pounds from last month. Upland cotton harvested area, at 13.0 million acres, is unchanged from the October estimate but 10 percent more than last year. Harvest progress continues to lag well behind the 5-year average in most States. American-Pima production is forecast at 720,000 bales, up slightly from the October forecast and up 67 percent from last year. The U.S. yield is forecast at 1,366 pounds per harvested acre, up 9 pounds from last month. Fall potatoes production of fall potatoes for 2004 is forecast at 408 million cwt, down 1 percent from last year for comparable States. Area harvested, at 1.02 million acres, is virtually unchanged from the July estimate but 6 percent below last year.
