2004 CROP VALUES DECREASE 5 PERCENT
IN SOUTH CAROLINA
Columbia, S. C., February 15, 2005: The total value of principal crops grown in South Carolina during 2004 was $532,356,000, down 5 percent ($30,211,000) from 2003, the USDA NASS South Carolina Statistical Office reported today. This total value ranked South Carolina 34th among all states. California was first with $18.1 billion while our neighboring states of Georgia and North Carolina were at $1.7 billion and $2.0 billion, respectively.
In South Carolina, 2004 Field and Miscellaneous Crop values at $445,742,000 were down 5 percent from the 2003 value of $470,717,000; 2004 Commercial Vegetable Crop values at $54,254,000 were down 7 percent from the 2003 value of $58,271,000, while the value of Fruits and Nuts in 2004 declined 4 percent to $32,360,000 from $33,579,000 in 2003.
