sc-crop-weather State South Carolina Crop Weather Release Date, Week Ending Date Week Ending November 21, 2004 Issue SC-CW1436 Agricultural Summary The week began with chilly, dry conditions. Some light frost damage to crops was reported in the upstate. Light showers moved into the State at the end of the week bringing much needed moisture and above normal temperatures. Overall soil moisture was 7% very short, 18% short, 72% adequate, 3% surplus. There were 6 days suitable for field work. Field Crops Report COTTON condition remained mostly good with 79 percent of the crop harvested. PEANUT harvesting was 99 percent completed by week's end. SOYBEANS were 93 percent matured and 55 percent harvested and the crop remained in mostly good condition. SORGHUM harvesting was 99 percent completed. SWEET POTATO harvesting was mostly completed by the end of the week. Fruits, Vegetables and Specialty Crops Report APPLE harvesting was virtually completed by week's end, and PECAN harvesting was 58 percent completed with the crop in mostly fair shape. Small Grains, Pasture and Livestock Report All SMALL GRAIN crops remained in fair to mostly good condition for the week. WINTER WHEAT planting was 64 percent completed and crop emergence was ahead of its normal rate at 53 percent. Ninety-two percent of BARLEY planting was completed with 75 percent of the crop emerged. OATS were 89 percent planted and 72 percent emerged, and RYE was 82 percent planted and 66 percent emerged by week's end. PASTURES and LIVESTOCK remained in mostly good condition for the week. WINTER GRAZINGS planting remained ahead of its normal rate with the crop in mostly good condition.
